Connecting the Probe Hardware to your Computer

You should have a Florida Probe Interface, a Computer Interface Cable, a 9 to 25 Pin Adapter (optional), a Florida Probe Optical Encoder, a Handpiece, a Foot Controller, a Test Block and one of two Power Modules.

Below is the step by step assembly of the hardware, however, you may view the Hardware Installation diagram.

Attach the Florida Probe Interface to an RS232 Serial Communications (Com) Port of the computer, using the Computer Interface Cable provided.

Secure the male 9-pin connector of the computer interface cable to the rear (power cord end) of the Computer Interface.

Attach the other end of the computer interface cable to an RS232 Serial Communications (Com) Port of the computer. The computer usually has one or two Com Ports. The Com Ports are located at the rear of the computer and may be either 9-pin or 25-pin male connectors (pins visible).

If your computer has a 25-pin Com Port, attach the 9 to 25 Pin Adapter to the end of the computer interface cable.
Plug the Florida Probe Optical Encoder into the receptacle marked "probe" on the front panel of the of the Computer Interface.
Attach a Handpiece to the Optical Encoder.
Plug the Foot Controller into the left receptacle, marked "Foot Switch", in the back panel of the Computer Interface.
Plug the Power Modules into the right receptacle, marked "9V AC", in the back panel of the Computer Interface. Plug the other end of the cord into a working outlet.
