Performing a Periodontal Visit

To begin a new visit, click on the "Periodontal Page" tab. While working with periodontal data, the Periodontal Toolbar and the Probing Mode Toolbar will be available.

You may select the types of data you wish to record: Recession, Pocket Depth, Bleeding & Suppuration, Plaque, Furcation, and Mobility. The types of data you select will be remembered as default settings for the next new visit created. The types of data to be recorded may be changed before each recording.

All data may be entered using the keyboard or the Florida Probe.

When using the Florida Probe, you will be asked to calibrate it before performing a periodontal visit. If any exceptional readings were taken during calibration, you will be asked to repeat the process. You may recalibrate the probe at any time by selecting the Calibrate button in the Periodontal Toolbar.

After successful calibration, you will be ready to perform the periodontal exam, moving through the different types of data you selected. Data collection will begin on the distal, buccal site of the right third molar (tooth #1 or #1-8) and will move across the facial surfaces of the maxillary teeth to the left third molar. Then to the distal, lingual site of the left, maxillary third molar and will move across the lingual surfaces of the maxillary teeth to the distal, lingual site of the right maxillary, third molar. From there it will move to the distal, buccal site of the right, mandibular, third molar then across the facial surfaces of the mandibular teeth to the distal, buccal site of the left, third molar. Then to the distal, lingual site of the left, mandibular, third molar and will move across the lingual surface of the mandibular teeth to the distal, lingual site of the right, mandibular third molar. Any teeth that are marked as missing will be skipped automatically.

All the data will be displayed on the Periodontal Page. A Magnified View will allow you to see the exact data for a single tooth.
